We are a group of Christians who
love God, love life and love people. We are committed to touching
our
city, our nation and our world. Heights is a church with a
marvellous
heritage spanning 80 years -- and our influence is
spanning the world. We
want to help you change your own world, so that together we can change
the whole world, one life at a time.

1. History
The origins of Heights Church
can be traced back to the 1920s, when
Adelaide was visited by well-known international evangelists, Smith Wigglesworth and Aimee Semple McPherson. In
those days the church in Australia was experiencing a powerful move of
the Holy Spirit, with many conversions and amazing miracles.
From this outpouring of the Spirit, a number of small churches began.
One of these was known as the Bible
Standard
Mission. Meetings were at that time being held in hired
facilities; however, by 1950 the church had purchased land and
constructed a
building in the Adelaide CBD and was known as Compton Street Assembly of God.
Over
the
next
30
years,
thousands
of
lives
were
influenced
by
the
ministry
of
this
church,
and
it
planted
several
other
churches.
During the late 1970s, the church was relocated into the northern
suburbs of Adelaide with the new name of Calvary Community Church. The
current site
was purchased, and stage 1 of the
building opened in 1982. The church grew rapidly and by 1989,
stage 2 was completed under the new name Heights Christian Church.Heights Church continues to
be a church with a local and global vision.
We have a passion to connect with the surrounding suburbs, to
influence
the city of Adelaide, and to make a difference in our world. Back to Top
2. About Us
Our Values
Liberty: We
respect the freedom that every person should find in a relationship
with God: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.” (Gal.
5:1, NIV) We use
our freedom to inspire and help one another achieve their destiny and
potential in life.
Dignity: Created
in the image of God, we believe that every individual is a person of
value and significance. Here at Heights Church, people are our
greatest
resource. You are unique, with a unique contribution to make to
life.
Unity: We believe
that
every person should be vitally connected to Jesus and equally connected
to a local church. In this church, every effort is made to build
lasting relationships with God and with one another.
Our Vision
Local: To be a
genuine
representation of Jesus Christ in this community. To tell
everyone that
Jesus offers an opportunity to lift their life. To impact the
generations with the message of Hope, Truth and Love that in turn will
make a difference in this city and this nation.
Global: To
participate
in God’s global plan and, in partnership with other churches, make a
difference in our world.
Heights Church is affiliated with the Australian Christian Churches (Assemblies of God in Australia).
The
following
are
our
beliefs:
Our beliefs are fundamental and evangelical -- our sole textbook
being the Bible. (2 Tim. 3:16, 17; 2 Pet. 1:19-21; John
5:39)
We believe in the Trinity -- the eternal Godhead.
(John
14:16, 17; 2 Cor. 13:4; Matt. 28:19)
We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and Saviour of the
world. (John 1:14; 14:9; Col. 1:16)

14:1-3;
Acts 1:11; 1 Thess. 4:15-17)
We believe in the Person and work of the Holy Spirit with His
Fruit and Gifts abiding in the Church. (John 14:26; Gal.
5:22, 23;
1 Cor. 12, 13 & 14)
We believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit for all believers
with the initial evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit
gives utterance. (Acts 1:1-8; 2:1-38; 8:14-19; 10:9-47;
11:15-18;
19:1-7)
We believe in the spiritually lost condition of man. (John

We believe in the essential need of the New Birth by faith in
Jesus Christ. (John 3:3, 16; Rom. 10:9, 10)

Several
times a year, Heights partners with dozens of churches around the world
to pray for 21 days for revival and increase, and for one
another. It
is incredibly powerful! Below is a video advertising the first 21
Days of Prayer in 2011 which runs from 7th to 27th March 2011.
Details of the participating churches and their prayer points are
available here.
Please
contact

events and how you
can be involved.
Heights is a
local/global church. We believe we can make a difference both in
our community and throughout the world. Our Missions programme is
at the heart of Heights. The programme has three main areas:
i. Ongoing Support
Heights
sets aside a tithe of its offerings to support missions and related
programmes.The tithe is
distributed among the following:
Leisel Luscombe, who receives the majority of the tithe. Leisel is a missionary
from Heights to Bolivia, assisting with our Bolivian After-School Care
Programme (see below)
Teen Challenge in South Australia
Local School Chaplaincy Programme
The “Dorcas Box”, which provides
funds for urgent needs within the community and other worthy causes
South Australian Youth Leadership
Training in the Australian Christian Churches
ii. Missions5
In addition
to the tithe, Heights raises other funds to support a variety of
missions
projects.Several worthwhile projects are
nominated, and a total Target is calculated for the amount to be raised.Once the Target has been reached, we move on
to a new set of projects. We began in
September 2007 with Missions Plus, followed by Missions2, Missions3 and
Missions4.Missions5 was launched 6 March
2011.
Projects
under Missions5
include:
Sponsoring 10 orphans in Indonesia
Purchasing computers for orphans in
Indonesia
Supporting Doug and Anna Boyle, who are field workers with the Australian
Christian Churches in Kazakhstan
Supporting the Boyles to run Teen Challenge in Georgia
Supporting Greg and Kim Hart, who are
field workers with the Australian Christian Churches in Mozambique
Supporting John and Anne Iqbal, who
are field workers with the
Australian Christian Churches in Pakistan
Supporting a church planter in Poland
Supporting a Jewish Ethiopian student
in Israel
Supporting Craig and Rebecca, who
supply water filters for clean
water to villages in Southeast Asia
Purchasing 25 of the water filters
Providing the airfare for Leisel
Luscombe to return to Bolivia
A missions trip to the newly built
ACC church
in Katherine, Northern Territory
A general project with ACC World
Missions
iii. Bolivian
After-School Care Programme
In November
2009, through a series of miracles, Heights was able to provide the
funds to
begin an after-school care programme in Bolivia.Thirty
children
from
disadvantaged
backgrounds
are
enrolled
in
a
special
afternoon
school
at
the
Assemblies
of
God
church
in
Alto Cochabamba.This programme
gets the children off the streets and equips them with much-needed
skills for
their future.It provides:
Bible study lessons
English lessons
Help with regular school work
Lessons in hygiene and related matters
A hot meal every week day
This care
programme was a vision of both the pastor of the church in Bolivia and
of
members of Heights, and is the answer to twelve years of prayer.Through God’s grace and the generosity of
many people, Heights is able to fund the school on an ongoing basis.
In August 2010
a second school of thirty children, also funded by Heights, was opened
in another location in Cochabamba. We are
believing God for further schools to open in the future.
